From SEPA vision to cornerstone of its payment processing infrastructure: STEP2 turns 20!

In Spring 2003, the STEP2 XCT Service went live with 18 participants from nine countries. With the trust and support of our STEP2 community, STEP2 has turned into a Systemically Important Payment System for Europe, reaching over 4,800 PSPs across all SEPA countries.

Average daily transaction volumes went from 23K in 2003 to almost 8 million in 2013. Today, the system processes almost 63 million transactions per day on average. Happy Birthday, STEP2!
